All teams are fictional but based out of real Canadian and American cities. The game is known for its fast paced hockey action and especially for the fighting. It is a one or two player game. When playing against the computer, there are three difficulty levels to choose from: Junior, College, and Pro (with Pro being the most difficult and Junior being the easiest). Each team consists of three forwards, two defencemen, and a goaltender.
Today's hockey games are all about realism. Everything should look as real as possible. When it came to Blades of Steel, the you knew that it was the real deal when you could get into a fight on the ice.
I never really was a hockey fan, and I never quite got the sport. I would very seldom last a whole match, and I would never win over the computer. I guess I just wasn't enought interested. That is why I give this quite classical game such low score.
